Editorial Policy

This page explains how RentCar Trip researches, writes, reviews, and corrects its guides. It applies to every article on the site. Our goal is simple: give U.S. rental car travelers accurate, source-backed answers about costs, fees, deposits, and insurance — and be transparent about how we get there.

1. Primary sources first

We build guides from original documents, not from other blogs. Our core sources are the rental companies’ own published terms and FAQ pages (Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and others), the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s consumer advice on renting a car, the U.S. State Department for international driving rules, state departments of insurance, and the Insurance Information Institute. Each guide links to the specific sources it relies on so readers can verify the claims independently.

2. Accuracy and hedging

Rental policies vary by company, location, vehicle class, payment card, and state law. When a rule is not universal, we say so. We do not invent statistics, dollar amounts, or company policies. When exact figures are not published, we present them as typical ranges and tell readers to confirm the final terms in their own reservation and rental agreement.

3. How guides are written and reviewed

We use writing tools, including AI, to help draft and structure content. No article is published on a tool’s output alone. Every guide is checked against the primary sources above, edited for accuracy and clarity, and given a “Last checked” date before publishing. We re-verify the key facts when we revise an article.

4. Independence and monetization

RentCar Trip earns revenue from advertising and, where relevant, affiliate links. Monetization never dictates our guidance. We describe a fee the way the source documents describe it, whether or not there is a commission attached. Advertising is kept separate from editorial content.

5. Corrections

If a guide is inaccurate or out of date, we want to fix it. Readers can report issues through the Contact page. We verify each report against the primary source and update the article, refreshing its “Last checked” date when we do.

6. What we are not
